Today was the first sunny and warm day in a long time so I decided to take the mustang on a cruise around town, eventually I caught a glimpse of the white veil sides (I think that's what they are called?) and gleaming red paint. I hauled the car across two lanes and pulled over to take some pictures.

Those exhaust pipes integrated into the chrome bumper are just jaw droppingly perfect.

Convertible top?

I have a model on my desk of a silver '62. It's amazing how small it is, some people still consider it a 'muscle' car but the first Gen corvette was only 2 inches longer than an e type.

Amazing! I so want one of these, but black with the red / silver veils.

Exactly! took me a minute to realize it until I saw my 98 stang next to it, the size difference is shocking.

Well, guess it is time to bear my shame to oppo... 3.8 liter v6, auto transmission. I added as many power adders as I could over time, working on a spec sheet and review now, will be done soon. Yes it's the worst possible mustang. But I'm a poor high school student and it's the best I could do at the time. She's underpowered and has tasteless mods but I love her.

Don't feel bad, you're not the only one here who has a base-spec ponycar. I drive a 2001 Camaro 3.8L V6, autotragic. I'm in college and I can't really afford a better car at the moment.

Same here, 3.8 and auto. I didn't even bother with power adders, I just repainted it (it was faded red, now it's cherry clear coat) and added a GT spoiler and racing stripes so that I could look at it and feel proud. I was never going to be fast, but at least it's pretty.

...although, that didn't stop me from beating civics and eclipses on Saturday nights... but ssssh, don't tell anyone about that.

They are called coves. And, yes, this is as about as beautiful as they get.

Damn, if that truck isn't uncomfortably close in a lot that has a LOT of open space.

Thanks guys! Good to know I'm not the only one! And I've got you with the eclipses, even with the base model we have to fight the good fight.

Totally understand, it's just a matter of preference. Especially in the car I think the outrageous chrome and bodywork makes it a love or hate car.

I am about to graduate college (at 27 no less! hate having to explain the military and deployment aspect of the late graduation) and just got out of a poor vehicle decision (my solstice, bought when I had to sell my dear melissa [400hp SRT-4] and was a tad emotional from the stress of being forced to sell her) and bought a 2013 Camaro (6-speed V6 base model, named Bernadette) after driving a budys 1996 V6 camaro (also with a stick). That motor is pretty lively with a stick shift, and I am guessing, while it may be less fun, is still pretty peppy with the AT, awesome post from you and Hey Julie

When I was a little kid, having grown up always having at least one mid-year Corvette in the family, I wasn't much of a fan of the solid axle cars. They just seemed out of proportion and underperforming. As an adult, however, I have come to love pretty much every Corvette older than 1974. The mid-year cars are still my favorite, but I will walk past most every other car to see any straight axle 'Vette up close.
